Collaborative Conversations

Kathe Schaaf has provided leadership in launching a series of innovative collaborative conversations and communities:

Gather the Women Global Matrix

Launched February 2002

Gather the Women is a global network of women and women’s organizations who share a belief that the time is now to celebrate and harvest the incredible power of women’s wisdom on a planetary scale. Kathe was one of 12 women who collaborated to co-created GTW in 2002. Today there are more than 40 Regional Coordinators across the United States as well as International Anchors who invite women locally to gather and co-create. Gather the Women Congresses have been held in Canada, Australia and Kenya as part of 6 Gather the Women Congresses on 6 Continents. Kathe served as President and administrator of GTW from 2003-2007.

Gender and Power at the Edge of the New Frontier

November 2007

It is time to bring the world back into balance, weaving the feminine principles back into our models for governance and welcoming women into leadership locally and globally. The new paradigm moves us far beyond ‘equality’ to a deep appreciation of the need for feminine values. Kathe facilitated this dialogue which brought men and women together to explore both the challenges and opportunities where gender and power intersect on the path to a new humanity.

Trans-partisan Dialogue for the Women of Southern California

January 2008

This dialogue was a collaborative project of Gather the Women - Southern California, the Department of Social Studies and the Department of International Studies at the University of California-Irvine. Co-hosted by two political women leaders in the region, one Democrat and one Republican, the event brought together more than 75 women for a day of dialogue to explore the common ground beyond our political differences.

At the Intersection of Sovereign and Sacred

Launched May 2008

This workshop explores the relationship between feminine spirituality and women’s global leadership. Sovereign means ‘freedom to choose’ … and when a woman can freely choose to follow her divine guidance, a powerful new form of leadership emerges. Kathe guides women on a deeply personal journey to discover their own authentic leadership.

Constellations of Hope: An Invitation to Organizational Collaboration

Launched November 2008

Constellations of Hope 2008 brought together 60 women representing 40 diverse North American women’s organizations for three days of dialogue to explore the opportunities and challenges of collaboration across cultural, spiritual and organizational differences. The gathering was co-convened by Kathe Schaaf (Co-founder Gather the Women), Regina Birchem (Past International President - Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom), Dorothy Ettling (Founder of Women’s Global Connection) and Kathy Sanchez (Tewa Women United) and scholarship funding was provided by Kalliopeia Foundation.

Women's Spirit Council

Launched March 2009

"Women who call upon the Divine using many different names and who represent many diverse spiritual traditions are arising and gathering united by their vision of a better world." If you recognize yourself in these words, you are may want to explore a new collaborative community of women and organizations coming together under the banner Women's Spirit Council. This initiative is just beginning to take shape, guided by a core circle of women who have histories with several diverse organizations and multiple spiritual traditions. This core is dedicated to:

  • listening deeply to the wisdom and inspiration of many
  • holding the space for the emergence of divine guidance and collective vision
  • self-organizing using feminine principles and practices
  • creating opportunities for inquiry and collaborative conversations locally, regionally, nationally and globally
  • discovering together projects, actions, activities and intentions which will nurture and magnify the spiritual leadership of women and contribute to global transformation

Over the next year, we will be hosting dialogues and conversations as an inquiry to explore this potential at a number of events and conferences, including the Parliament of World Religions in Melbourne, Australia. You are warmly welcomed into this sacred space where we can explore together the many dimensions of the sacred feminine, the healing potential of feminine leadership and new paradigms of collaboration.

Parliament of the World's Religions

December 2009

The Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions was created to cultivate harmony among the world's religious and spiritual communities and foster their engagement with the world and its guiding institutions in order to achieve a just, peaceful and sustainable world. Since 1993, a Parliament of the World’s Religions has convened every five years in a major international city (Chicago 1993, Cape Town 1999, Barcelona 2004). Kathe has been invited to serve as an Ambassador for the 2009 Parliament which will be held in Melbourne, Australia December 3-9. She is collaborating with other women and organizations to activate a focus upon the sacred feminine and women's leadership at this Parliament.

Women of Spirit and Faith

Our Earth is in crisis and it seems that many are looking to women to heal the planet and our human family. Before women can step into our full potential as leaders and guides in this moment:

  • we must individually reconnect with our deepest wisdom and with our spiritual roots;
  • we must collectively heal the many dimensions of separation that keep us fragmented and ineffective as agents of social change; and
  • we must globally reclaim our rightful place as spiritual leaders in service of a balanced and compassionate new paradigm.

Women of Spirit and Faith has emerged as a response to this call for a new paradigm of feminine leadership grounded and guided by spirituality. The organizations exists to invite all the brilliant threads of feminine spiritual leadership into relationship and to support emerging patterns for transformation.

We are committed to:

  • Strengthen and nurture the leadership capacities of women of spirit and faith for the sake of the human community
  • Encourage collaboration and understanding among women’s organizations and networks
  • Create an environment of trust, inviting women’s voices to be heard, telling and witnessing each other’s stories
  • Offer multiple opportunities to explore potent questions about the current state of women’s spiritual leadership
  • Practice and model a feminine way, creating a structure based upon shared leadership, collaborative practices, circle processes, deep listening, mindfulness and compassionate action
  • Allow space for the emergence of divine guidance and collective wisdom

The initiative hosted four Exploratory Conversations in 2010 and will convene two collaborative gatherings in 2010-2011:
Women’s Spiritual Leadership: A Collaborative Exploration, is an invitational retreat which will bring together 29 diverse women leaders representing existing organizations and networks from the U.S. and Canada to explore the current pattern of women’s spiritual leadership in our region. This retreat will be hosted in partnership with the Mary and Joseph Retreat Center in Palos Verdes, California November 14-17, 2010.
The Alchemy of our Spiritual Leadership: Women Redefining Power will take place April 28-May 1, 2011 at the Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay and bring together 300 women for an expanded exploration of the challenges and opportunities facing women of spirit and faith as they bring forth their individual and collective leadership.

Kathe says:

"Our assignment is no single simple thing. It is a remarkably complex matrix of overlapping projects, initiatives, names, cultures, personalities, processes and passions. There are whole dimensions of it that none of us has ever glimpsed. It will take all of us. And we will have to be smart. There are no maps or blueprints because no one else on this planet has ever successfully constructed one of these brilliant structures. We need to figure it out as we go, do our very best and love one another along the way. I do believe we will figure it out. It has already been written in the stars."
